Notably, international arrivals reached nearly 2.6 million, primarily from markets such as China, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, India, France, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan.
Throughout the period, Quang Ninh implemented various initiatives to enhance year-round tourism experiences, solidifying its position as a must-visit destination for both domestic and international travelers. The province focused on developing tourism products that highlight its unique values, including cruises on Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, and visits to the Yen Tu Special National Relic Site.
During the Lunar New Year, visitor numbers surged compared to the same period in 2023. In 2024, the province introduced 62 new tourism products, such as the Ha Long Carnival 2024; the Lighthouse Entertainment Complex (featuring cuisine, experiences, and artistic performances); high-end cruise services like the Grand Pioneers 2, connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay (Heritage Journey tour, sea and island tourism); and the opening of the Wyndham Garden Sonasea Resort within the Sonasea Van Don Harbor City complex. Additionally, the Ha Long International Cruise Port continued to play a pivotal role in attracting international visitors to Ha Long Bay and Quang Ninh Province.
However, in early September, Quang Ninh was significantly affected by Typhoon No. 3. The tourism sector suffered considerable damage, with 27 tourist boats sunk, many overnight vessels sustaining broken windows or other damages, and some transfer boats capsized. Several hotels experienced broken windows, roof damage, or collapsed restaurants. Recreational equipment in amusement areas was damaged, and power shortages hindered operations.
Despite a week-long disruption in tourism activities following the typhoon, the concerted efforts of the provincial authorities and residents facilitated a swift recovery. Many accommodation and tourism establishments resumed operations and began welcoming visitors again. From September 8 to 16, Ha Long Bay received nearly 14,500 international tourists and 3,450 domestic tourists. The total number of visitors to Ha Long Bay during this period was 18,862, with 4,169 staying overnight on the bay.
