Ly Son tops agoda's list of Vietnam's fastest-rising destinations, set to welcome its first five-star resort
Search demand for travel to Ly Son during the Summer 2026 season has surged compared with the previous year, propelling Vietnam's unique volcanic island special zone to the top of Agoda's list of the country's fastest-rising travel destinations.

Ly Son captivates visitors with its pristine natural landscapes.

Vietnam's most promising emerging destination for summer 2026

According to accommodation search data from Agoda, travelers this summer are increasingly seeking destinations that combine spectacular natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and opportunities for authentic exploration from untouched islands and heritage sites to highland retreats with pleasant climates.

As Vietnam's strategic offshore island, renowned for its remarkable historical significance, breathtaking scenery, rich cultural heritage, and monuments commemorating the nation's maritime sovereignty, Ly Son Special Zone has emerged as the country's leading new destination for the Summer 2026 travel season.

Statistics from Quang Ngai's tourism authorities indicate that visitor arrivals to Ly Son have risen sharply since the beginning of summer. Sa Ky Port has become busier than ever, driving passenger traffic on the Sa Ky – Ly Son ferry route up by 129.1% compared with the same period in 2025. On peak days, more than 2,000 passengers travel to the island, prompting port authorities to increase ferry services to 14 departures per day, operating at intervals of just over 30 minutes to accommodate demand.

Visitors consistently cite Ly Son's pristine landscapes, crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and distinctive cultural heritage among the island's greatest attractions. Traditional festivals such as the Four Sacred Animals Boat Race and the Hoang Sa Soldiers' Commemoration Festival, together with historic landmarks including Thoi Loi Mountain, To Vo Gate, Duc Pagoda, Hang Pagoda, and Be Island, preserve the island's rich identity while commemorating Vietnam's centuries-long history of safeguarding its maritime sovereignty.

Beyond its cultural significance, Ly Son is also recognized for its Sa Huynh archaeological sites and remarkable geological heritage. Often described as Vietnam's Maldives in the East Sea, the island is home to a unique volcanic geopark featuring exceptional biodiversity and spectacular natural landscapes.

Ly Son continues to refresh its tourism appeal through a growing calendar of sporting, cultural, and experiential events. Most recently, the Vietnam SUP Festival, held as part of the Quang Ngai Tourism Festival 2026, offered visitors a fresh perspective on the island's spectacular scenery while showcasing the only island in Vietnam formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago. The event further strengthened Ly Son's profile among both domestic and international travelers.

Crystal Holidays Heritage Ly Son – The Island's Long-Awaited Five-Star Resort

Rich in mystery, history, and natural beauty, Ly Son possesses extraordinary tourism potential. Yet its location approximately 15 nautical miles (30 kilometers) from the mainland, combined with transportation constraints, has limited the pace of tourism development and prevented the island from fully realizing its potential.

Despite covering just over 10 square kilometers and accommodating approximately 22,000 residents, Ly Son has the highest population density among Vietnam's 13 special zones nearly 20 times higher than Co To Special Zone in Quang Ninh Province. The island currently offers more than 130 guesthouses and homestays, together with seven hotels providing over 1,000 rooms, capable of serving approximately 3,000 visitors at any given time. However, Ly Son still lacks an internationally branded five-star resort worthy of its growing reputation as Vietnam's Maldives.

Later this month, Crystal Holidays Heritage Ly Son, an integrated cultural heritage tourism complex, is scheduled to break ground. The development is expected to transform the island's tourism landscape by introducing luxury accommodation that meets the expectations of both domestic and international travelers.

Crystal Holidays Heritage Ly Son, developed by Everland Group, is scheduled to break ground in June 2026.

The project occupies a 3.1-hectare prime beachfront site - the island's only land parcel large enough to accommodate an internationally standardized luxury resort. Its exceptional waterfront location offers uninterrupted ocean views, creating an ideal setting for a hospitality experience where nature and world-class comfort exist in perfect harmony.

The master plan draws inspiration from Ly Son's rich history, beginning more than 400 years ago, when Vietnamese settlers crossed the sea from Sa Ky to establish communities on the island. The design also reflects the island's million-year-old volcanic formations, mysterious lava caves, fertile basalt soil that produces the famous Ly Son garlic, and offshore coral reefs supporting unique marine ecosystems.

At the heart of the resort stands a central architectural composition symbolizing five volcanic peaks representing the geological origins of the island from which clusters of villas radiate outward in elegant Indochine and Contemporary Cham architectural styles.

Upon completion, the project will significantly expand Ly Son's supply of premium accommodation.

The resort's architectural design blends seamlessly with the surrounding natural environment while celebrating the island's cultural identity through its interior design, culinary experiences, staff uniforms, and guest activities. Individual villas and semi-detached villas are thoughtfully positioned among existing garlic fields, interwoven with lush landscapes of watermelon plantations and native vegetation.

The beachfront resort zone will feature 18 luxury bungalows and 18 private villas, each showcasing contemporary Cham-inspired architecture expressed through refined decorative motifs and carefully crafted design details.

Guest facilities have been thoughtfully planned to maximize privacy while minimizing noise. Layers of tropical vegetation surround dedicated spaces for yoga and meditation, outdoor barbecue areas, and wellness activities. Green corridors flowing naturally between the villas create a tranquil atmosphere that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.

Additional outdoor leisure areas—including garden pavilions, landscaped lawns, and contemplative stone gardens—provide peaceful spaces where guests can unwind, reconnect with nature, and experience the island's remarkable historical landmarks and pristine landscapes in an authentic way.

After years of strong demand and limited premium accommodation, the arrival of Ly Son's first five-star resort represents a significant milestone. The project is expected to revitalize the island's resort real estate market, expand the supply of luxury hospitality products, elevate the tourism industry, and attract high-value domestic and international travelers.

According to Everland Group, the developer, Crystal Holidays Heritage Ly Son will become the missing piece completing Ly Son's tourism landscape—bringing together luxury hospitality, eco-tourism, and cultural heritage to reinforce the island's position as one of Vietnam's most captivating destinations, often affectionately referred to as the "Maldives of the East Sea."/.
